My ex cutting himself...?

okay so me and my ex broke up about 2 weeks ago and he wants me back but he's leaving for college soon and what not. well he cuts himself and I'm not sure if it's for attention or what. but he just sent me a picture of his arm and it bleeding and the razor in the sink and everything and i dunno what im supposed to do. it kills me to see that but i don't want to take him back just because of that. i've talked to his mom and it and she just says he scares her everyday and does nothing about it. and then he just texted me saying "you hurt me almost as much as cutting myself 30 times" when really i didnt do anything to really hurt him. just told him we werent gonna work out after he left. and then he texted me and just said "bye cara". he scares me to death. what do i need to do or can i do? thank you so much!
