Are there really poor people in the united states?

Because of my career, I've been in the poorest of the poors' homes as well as the richest of the rich. And yes, we do have REALLY POOR people here in America. To identify them better we need social workers getting out from behind their desks and actually going to their client's homes to determine their need/eligibility. I realize some don't have homes and are homeless or stay in shelters (which aren't permanent). This makes everything extremely difficult for them. I don't know what we can do about that other than maybe building more and bigger shelters. Good question.
